A considerable investment in building a team-based organisation, whose objective is to ensure that the individual employee is given the opportunity to make use of his/her skills and competence, has always produced good results.
SØRAL is investing heavily in specialist training. Around 50 operators have undergone theoretical training
with a view to taking a cross-disciplinary examination in metallurgical process subjects during the last couple of years of the course. SØRAL is an approved educational institute in 9 different subjects, and has a good 15 - 20 apprentices on contract.
For many years SØRAL has had its own specially developed further training institutes for our specialist operators. In cooperation with the aluminium companies in Hydro and Elkem, we have developed a further training institute for specialist operators in electrolysis. This development began in the autumn of 2004.
SØRAL has worked hard to build up good teaching competence, not only for current and potential
instructors, but we have seen it is one of our strengths that many of our operators have also undergone
parts of this instructor training.
At regular intervals we conduct an extensive social climate study with over 90% participation from the
employees. The result points to employees who are proud of being part of SØRAL and who give the impression that they belong to an organisation which is characterised by openness and good opportunities
for personal development.
Through various arrangements SØRAL is attempting to create a social community for its
employees and their families. An active company athletics club also makes an important
contribution to this.
If SØRAL is to achieve its objective of becoming a zero-injuries company, HES competence
must be improved. In this case what matters is attitude rather than knowledge and capability.
We are therefore investing heavily in behaviour-based HES training. |
