Environment, health and safety | If SØRAL is to achieve its objective of becoming a zero-injuries company, HES competence must be improved. In this case what matters is attitude rather than knowledge and capability. We are therefore investing heavily in behaviour-based HES training.

Aluminium and environment
All types of industrial production involve use of energy and raw materials that lead to big or small quantities of waste material. That is also the case with the production of aluminium.
To be able to put up a comprehensive account of the effect of such processes, one must include both the lifetime of the product, with relation to reprocessing and the need for maintenance. It is proved in these studies that aluminium is often better off compared to other materials. There are 2 reasons for that:
Aluminium is very well suited for re-circulation. The use of energy is only 5% of that what is required for primary production and the degree of re-circulation is quite high. At the moment it has an average of 73%. The number for the means of transport is as high as 95% and with a well-developed reprocessing system; we hope to reach an average of 90%. Low weight combined with high power gives light constructions, which in turn require reduced use of energy during transport.
